When the stunning Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Line opens June 6, Kashmir will join India's vast rail network and history will be made.
The 272-km railway line, built at a cost of Rs 437.80 billion, will join Udhampur, Jammu, with Srinagar, Kashmir.
Watch out for 2 engineering firsts -- the world's highest railway bridge over the Chenab river and India's first cable-stayed rail bridge at Anji.
The Chenab bridge used 28,660 tonnes of steel and reduces the travel time between Jammu and Kashmir to 6½ hours.
Rising 359 metres over the Chenab river, its arch spanning 1,315 metres, it is the tallest railway bridge on earth.
The Anji bridge is 331 metres above the Anji river valley, 80 km from Jammu city.
The total length of cable used: 653 km!
High-tech, winter-ready Vande Bharat trains, featuring heated silicone panels and smart sensors to keep the power steady in icy conditions, will run on the line.
This is the Indian Railways' most ambitious project since 1947.
This completes India's north-to-south rail corridor uniting Kashmir with Kanyakumari, 3,127 km away.
